PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan undergoes heart surgery in London

82-year-old is currently in intensive care at Royal Brompton Hospital

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan has undergone a successful heart surgery in London, Press Trust of India reported on Sunday.

According to sources, doctors carried out an operation to open Khan’s clogged arteries by using stents at Royal Brompton Hospital in London on Friday.

“He [Khan] is in intensive care but the process has been successful and doctors have said he can leave in a week’s time,” said one source.



Speculations were rife about Khan’s health and there were rumours this could lead to his stepping down as PCB’s chairman. “He is okay now and should be back in Pakistan later this month to take charge again,” said the source. “However, he is up-to-date with all cricket matters even in London, and gave his approval for the appointment of Wasim Bari as Pakistan team’s new manager.”



Khan had complained of high blood pressure and breathing problems while attending the Asian Cricket Council meeting in Colombo recently where he was elected as president.

The 82-year-old, who is enjoying his second stint as the chairman of the board, is also expected to decide on whether Azhar Ali should be continue as captain of the ODI squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies in the UAE.
