For Eid, we have chalked out a special plan but before this goes under way we have to pay attention towards the security of market places throughout the city, he said. "Sukkur being a central city of the region is thronged by people from the outskirts and nearby cities and towns," he said, adding that therefore it is important to keep a vigilant eye on anti-social elements and pickpockets, who always become active on such occasions.
To people feel secure, we have deployed a large number of police officials at different shopping centres, cattle markets and exit and entry points of the city, he informed. Besides, pickets and checkpoints have been established at the national and Indus highways so no one enters the city without proper checking, he added.
For this purpose, 41 inspectors, sub-inspectors and ASIs have been deployed along with 338 head constables and constables, apart from the mobile teams which will patrol the main roads and streets round the clock.
Congregations
For the purpose of providing security to Eid congregations at 40 Eidgahs, 98 mosques, 15 imambargahs and 19 open places, around 1,055 police officials have been deployed. Keeping in view the implementation of the National Action Plan, all hotels and musafirkhanas are being checked once a week to keep an eye on any suspicious movement, he added.
Remembering the fallen
The SSP shared that they have not forgotten the men who laid their lives in the line of the duty. "Today I have sent Eidi and goodies to the families of our martyred policemen," he said, explaining that Rs10,000 cash and gifts have been sent to some 35 families so they can enjoy the festival. "Our martyrs make us proud of being part of this department and therefore I will always do whatever I can for their families," he remarked.
