ABBOTTABAD: National Accountability Bureau Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has arrested a serving senior police officer for allegedly misusing authority and engaging in corruption in a land scam worth millions of rupees.

Officials privy to the development told The Express Tribune the accused was shifted to Peshawar and handed over to NAB by a judge of the accountability court for a 10-day physical remand. Muhammad Sajid Khan was serving as Abbottabad SP investigation wing. During his posting as deputy director of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Abbottabad Circle in 2008, he was tasked with an enquiry into corruption allegations and wrongdoing in the allotment of plots in Ghazikot Township in Mansehra.

During the enquiry, he allegedly misused his authority and closed the file. According to officials, he closed the deal after striking an agreement with officials of Mansehra Development Authority who allotted him a fully furnished bungalow worth Rs15 million in Ghazikot Township. The bungalow was offered to him as a bribe.

NAB K-P started an enquiry into the case and, after collecting evidence against him, arrested him. The bureau shifted him to Peshawar where he was produced before the accountability court. The court handed him over to NAB on physical remand for 10 days for further investigation.
