He may have become known for his roles in films like Ek Villain but Sidharth Malhotra does not believe his forte lies in on-screen romance.

The 31-year-old actor, whose latest film Baar Baar Dekho hit theatres recently, said that for him, it is more about the script than how easily he can enact his part.

“Love stories are really not my comfort zone. I have only done two of them, along with one action film and I haven’t found my comfort zone yet,” The Indian Express quoted Malhotra as saying. “It’s all about stories for me. If I have a new story to tell and be a part of, I would do it.”

To elaborate upon this statement, Malhotra cited his previous cinematic outing Kapoor & Sons as an example. “Kapoor & Sons was a family drama done in a new way. Similarly, I’ve done Baar Baar Dekho which, again, shows a very unique concept of time. I’d say trying something new is my comfort zone.”

Malhotra, who made his Bollywood debut back in 2012 with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year, is often referred to as Dharma Production’s blue-eyed boy. When asked about this, the actor said, “There is no pressure! Dharma is one of the best production houses,” he said. “At the most, it has co-produced my films but people will not understand that technicality, which is fine. I feel happy that I have got the chance as people are dying to work with Dharma.”

The Brothers star went on to praise his Baar Baar Dekho co-star Katrina Kaif, revealing he has a huge crush on her and that working in the film was a dream come true. “Our chemistry is very good in the film because once you work with a girl you have a crush on and are actually doing a romantic film with her, all your fantasies come true,” Malhotra confessed. “You can say romantic lines to her, dance with her and that is exactly what happened. I also got to learn a lot from her as, being at this position with the kind of experience she has, Kaif never takes it for granted. She is very hard working and committed, starts from zero in every scene, every project.”

Malhotra also spoke of the film’s director Nitya Mehra, claiming that she had a “strong and solid energy” on the sets. “When people see Baar Baar Dekho, they won’t feel like it’s her first film. She was so focused as the captain of the ship.”

The film revolves around Malhotra’s character Jai, a commitment-phobic youngster who wants to make it big in his career. His girlfriend, Kaif’s Diya, is the complete opposite, much more fun-loving and eager to settle down.

Asked what he took away from this concept, Malhotra said, “You can have a great balance in life if you have a good partner who can support you. One can manage both a great professional life as well as a good personal life, depending upon what phase you are in.”
