Staving off a crisis: Security plan chalked out in Peshawar, Hangu for Eid

Holidays of officials have been cancelled to provide extra security

PESHAWAR/HANGU: Law-enforcement agencies have chalked out a security plan for Peshawar and Hangu ahead of Eidul Azha.

Speaking at a news conference in Hangu on Friday, DPO Shah Nazar Khan said the police have deployed special teams in cattle markets and public gatherings to avoid any untoward incidents in the city.

“Officials have been directed to remain vigilant of suspicious-looking people to avoid individuals from taking the law in their own hands,” he said.



He said additional police officers will be deployed at Eidul Azha gatherings and public spaces to maintain law and order in the city.

“The police officials will be deployed in plain clothes at public gatherings and we have urged tribal elders to cooperate with police officials,” he said. “The holidays of officials have been cancelled on Eid to provide extra security. Special squads have also been deployed at houses of members of Parliament.

Comprehensive plan

The police have also prepared a comprehensive security plan in Peshawar for Eid. At least 4,300 additional police officials will be deployed in the city.

Around 1,056 police officials will be deployed for the security of 175 mosques, 600 police officials for 60 markets and 70 others will be deployed on main Eidgah on Charsadda Road.

At least 20 cattle markets will also be provided with additional security ahead of Eid.

SSP Operations Abbas Majeed Marwat has tasked seven DSPs, 13 SHOs and 59 inspectors to oversee the security of the city.

At least 1,000 police personnel have been deployed and 118 policewomen have been deployed in different parts of the city. Around 21 Rapid Response Force and Quick Response Force mobiles have also been deployed to patrol different parts of the city.
