LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Thursday ordered reinstatement of Abbas Raza as chairman of the National Tariff Commission (NTC) and issued a notice to the federal government to file its reply in this case by September 19.

The chief justice suspended Ministry of Commerce’s notification relating to termination of Raza’s service.

Raza submitted through his counsel Hafiz Tariq Naseem that the Ministry of Commerce had removed him from service without any cogent reason. He said the ministry had also suspended the National Tariff Commission Ordinance for no reason. After suspension of the ordinance and termination of his service, he said, the NTC was working illegally. He said the ministry had removed him without issuing a show-cause notice. He requested the court to issue directions to the ministry to reinstate him as NTC chairman.
