Voice of dissent: Load-shedding looms large in Karak

A resident says that the power crisis has compelled many people to start using illegal kunda connections

KARAK: Prolonged load-shedding coupled with the absence of gas and water has irked the residents of Karak.

Residents believe local representatives, who earlier vowed to take to the streets against load-shedding and the shortage of water in rural areas, have gradually disappeared.

According to locals, members of Rabita Committee, a body constituted to resolve the problems faced by the public, had initiated a campaign. The initiative was titled ‘Bijli sudharo’. Under the campaign, consumers had been prompted to pay electricity bills for the current month. However, the Pesco chief executive still could not provide electricity to the region.

On the directives of Karak DC and Kohat commissioner, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited consulted the elders of Rabita Committee and vowed to merge the main pipeline with the system that operates in the neglected areas. However, the initiative was to no avail as the construction work has not commenced yet.

A resident told The Express Tribune the power crisis has compelled many people to start using illegal kunda connections. However, local representatives and the Pesco chief have remained tight-lipped over the matter.
