World Wetlands Day: Students present skits to highlight environment issue

ISLAMABAD: The closing ceremony of World Wetlands Day 2011 was held at the Federal Government Girls College F-6/2 on Friday. On the occasion, students from public and private schools of Islamabad demonstrated different performances in connection with World Wetlands Day.

Principal of the college, Professor Shaista Peerzada, National Manager Pakistan Wetlands Programme Dr Ghulam Akbar, Chief Technical Advisor Richard Garstang, IG Forest Syed Nasir Mehmood and other officials of the Ministry of Environment and Pakistan Wetlands Programme were also present on the occasion.   Former minister for environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi said that citizens may play their important role to conserve and preserve the forests and wetlands of the country as there is a need to maintain ecosystem to save the environment. He also expressed great pleasure to note that a huge numbers of students had participated in the activities.

Afridi also distributed prizes and certificates among the wining students of different competitions.
