KARACHI: Coke Studio is running this year without one of its star performers from the previous edition, Nabeel Shaukat Ali. However, that hasn’t bothered the Sur Kshetra winner one bit. He has recently released Bulleya, accompanied by a video based on a concept, which, despite being overdone, still manages to work out fine. It shows Ali walk the rugged terrain and shaky bridges of the Pakistani north confidently, with a guitar hanging around his neck.

These are among Baba Bulleh Shah’s most popular lines whose profundity really makes you think. The track is a tad bit typical and not much happens to break the monotony throughout its length. We continue to remain loyal to the Khuda Kay Liye version sung by Khawar Jawad and composed by the master we call Rohail Hyatt.

Bulleya has been released by one of the fathers of the Indian reality television phenomenon, Ganjendra Singh. While the song might not exactly climb to the top of the charts, we’re just glad Ali is continually releasing music. And this new gig with Singh does typify promise for him in India where a singer of his vocal talents can achieve quite a lot.
