SWABI: The condition of 25 students deteriorated again on Monday afternoon when they went back to the Karnal Sher Khan College Swabi after being discharged from the hospitals.

On Sunday night, at least 200 students of the college suffered food poisoning after having biryani and cold drinks for dinner. Swabi DPO Javed Iqbal said they were rushed to Mardan Medical Complex by the authorities of the college.

The security forces reported 181 students had low blood pressure, were vomiting and suffered from diarrhoea soon after eating the food. The authorities of the college rushed them to Combined Military Hospital, Mardan and hospitals of Nowshera and Peshawar, besides Mardan Medical Complex.

Rescue 1122 Mardan District Emergency Officer Dr Haris Habib told The Express Tribune workers treated some students on the spot while shifted others students to Mardan Medical Complex.

Swabi DC Matiullah Khan told the media the students told him they had eaten something other than the biryani served to them for dinner. The DPO confirmed the students had fallen ill due to the intake of poisonous food.

“Samples of the food served to the children have been sent to the PCSIR Laboratory in Peshawar to identify the cause of food poisoning – the results are awaited,” the DPO said.

He added all the students had been discharged from the hospital after being treated except for 10 who were still at the hospitals, but doctors said they would be discharged soon.
