Facebook makes trending news feature more automated
Facebook often tests new features with a small group before a public launch. Last week, Facebook announced it was further automating its trending stories feature -- a move set to scale back human input. The initiative has been taken to prevent personal bias from influencing which stories get highlighted.
Facebook said relying more heavily on software would allow the feature to cover a wider scale and reduce the risk of personal bias manipulating trending topics. Earlier this year, Facebook also announced that it would give greater prominence to friends and families across user feeds.
Facebook to put friends and family first, not media
In a statement, Facebook said the goal of the news feed which appears when users log in, “is to show people the stories that are most relevant to them” and that its update “helps you see more posts from your friends and family.”
It is yet to be seen if the new feature is in line with Facebook’s earlier statements.
