ISLAMABAD: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has challenged the Supreme Court registrar’s decision to reject its petition for investigating the Panama Papers, which revealed that three key members of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family had offshore companies in international tax havens.

The party’s chief Sirajul Haq on August 24 had filed a petition under Article 184(3) of the Constitution and had made the federation through parliamentary affairs ministry, secretaries of ministries of law and justice, finance and cabinet division and NAB chairman respondents.

The petition was later rejected by the SC registrar on grounds of being ‘frivolous’. “The petition prima facie appears to be frivolous within the contemplation of Order XVII Rule 5 of the Supreme Court Rules, 1980,” he had said.
