PESHAWAR: The attack on the district courts in Mardan drew widespread condemnation from the legal fraternity.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and the Peshawar High Court Bar Association condemned the attack on Mardan district courts, saying it was an attack on the independence of the judiciary.

The bars announced to boycott court proceedings across the province and urged the government to implement the National Action Plan.

Separately, Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali Khan and other leaders also condemned the incident. They expressed resentment over simultaneous suicide attacks in Wapda Colony, Peshawar and Mardan.

IGP Nasir Khan Durrani inspected the site of the suicide attack in Mardan on Friday. This was stated in a handout issued on the same day. The IGP also enquired after the health of the people injured in the blast.

“The IGP went to the attack site on his arrival in Mardan to inspect the damage caused by the suicide attack,” the handout stated.

The police officials also briefed IGP about the modus operandi of terrorists.
