Trend spotting: Tie the knot, with a skinny scarf

On the same note, the scarf has proven to be quite versatile, as well

Skinny scarves fall among the fashion trends that are more decorative than practical. Honestly, what good is a skinny scarf against the cold? But recently, the finishing accent has become an outfit-completer that a slew of stars, stylists and fashion insiders have embraced. On the same note, the scarf has proven to be quite versatile, as well. As seen on InStyle, three Hollywood models – Karlie Kloss, Alexa Chung and Lily-Rose Depp show us the most chic ways to wear a skinny scarf with an outfit of your choice.

Lily-Rose Depp

Looking vibrant and stylish, the 17-year-old model opted to pair a bright-red scarf with a multi-coloured strapless top. With a simple pair of denim jeans and plain black strappy heels, this diva certainly knows how not to go over-the-top with her dressing. Take a cue from Depp and treat the scarf like a choker—wrap it around like a necklace a couple of times before knotting it from the back.

By nature, the skinny scarf is a relic from the 1970s. The model celebrated its origins by knotting it close to her neck and styling it with other 1970s pairings, like a leopard-print coat layered over a blouse and tucked into a pair of high-waist denim. Wearing black-heeled boots as footwear, the starlet looked perfectly dressed for a winter night.

The skinny scarf is a street-style favourite, but this American starlet elevated the trend to formal status. Bringing her A-game to the red carpet, she paired the black scarf with a figure-hugging cocktail dress that accentuated her fit frame. We absolutely adore how she put together a monochromatic ensemble, coupling the black peplum-detailed outfit with a pair of stark white heels.
