PM Nawaz ridicules Sheikh Rashid over political 'predictions'

The prime minister performs ground-breaking of Lahore Eastern Bypass at Kala Shah Kaku

LAHORE: As the opposition parties are set to launch their fresh protest against the incumbent government in Lahore, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken a jibe at Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid over his anti-government 'predictions', saying the PML-N will complete its tenure.

“A politician from Rawalpindi that you are aware of keeps saying the government will leave... he has been giving dates for last three years and now one and half year is left," he said while addressing a ceremony at the ground-breaking of Lahore Eastern Bypass at Kala Shah Kaku on Friday.



"God willing, our government will complete its tenure, and the PML-N will come into power again."

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called a protest march on September 3, urging for an independent inquiry of Panama leaks. Tahirul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), among other parties, will also join the demonstration.



Earlier upon his arrival at Kala Shah Kaku, the premier was briefed by chairman National Highway Authority about the salient features of the bypass project.

The 16.5 kilometre long bypass will be completed at a cost Rs28 billion, according to Radio Pakistan. Situated in the east of Lahore, the bypass will connect with Lahore Ring Road at a distance of 3.3 kilometres from Niazi interchange.

The bypass will start from Mehmood Booti interchange and end at GT Road and Lahore-Islamabad Motorway junction at Kala Shah Kaku interchange.
