They maintained that the non-payment of their pay has led to a halt in the education of their children

SHANGLA: Over 120 ex-police personnel recruited for security at the China camp complained about the non-payment of salaries for the last four months in Shangla. The China camp is the hub for Chinese workers building dams in Besham. The security personnel said that they were forced to live from hand to mouth and have demanded the government release their salaries. They maintained that the non-payment of their pay has led to a halt in the education of their children at schools as they cannot pay the fee. However, the Shangla district police officer said it was the duty of National Highway Authority officials to pay salaries. He added they were only provided with the funds for two months’ salaries and the amount will be released shortly.
