ABBOTABAD: A girl reportedly committed suicide shortly after she disappeared from her house for an entire day in a village of Abbottabad district.

An official of Qalandarabad police told The Express Tribune on Sunday that Abdul Shakoor, a resident of Sajikot village, said his daughter Abira Bibi, a student of class eight, went to school on Saturday. “However, she did not reach school and did not return home until evening,” he said. “At around 7pm, she returned home but did not tell anyone why she had not been at this. Abira Bibi’s mother scolded her about this.”

The official said the girl went inside her room and locked the door.

However, when she did not come out for some time, her family members broke into the room where they found her lying in a semi-conscious state.

They took her to Ayub Teaching Hospital where she died after a couple of hours. According to doctors at the facility, Abira Bibi had consumed a poisonous substance.

A large number of cases have surfaced in Hazara Division on the whole.

A couple of days back, a man in Haripur reportedly committed suicide over financial crisis. The police cited his wife as saying that the deceased did not have a job for the last two years.

He was worried about how his family would run their household and educate three children. The man had borrowed money from someone and feared he would be unable to pay it back.
