Congo virus: Measures not in place to tackle threat

ISLAMABAD: Eidul Azha is still three weeks away, but livestock owners have begun to throng the twin cities with herds of sacrificial animals, hoping that buyers make their purchases well ahead of the religious holiday. Kaleem Anam, a livestock owner, said the prices were higher this year due to the increased costs of feed, vaccination and transportation. “Due to fear of the Congo virus, I will avoid buying them from there and plan to hire an online service,” said businessman Salman Najam. A vendor said this is the first time he had heard of Congo virus presenting a threat.
