A PTA official confirmed to The Express Tribune that the authority had received orders from the federal government to block the IP addresses hosting the MQM website. The site is inaccessible in Pakistan only.
The move comes a day after the MQM chief made anti-Pakistan remarks in a telephone speech to his supporters outside Karachi Press Club.
The PTA officials refused to give any timeline for unblocking the MQM website in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court, seeking orders for the cancellation of MQM’s registration as a political party.
The petitioner, Advocate Sardar Aftab Virk, contended it was mandatory for every political party to be patriotic but the MQM was not a patriotic party as its chief was involved in anti-Pakistan activities.
The plaintiff requested the court to issue directions for the cancellation of MQM’s registration as a political party.
