PESHAWAR: Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali Khan said the massacre of August 24, 1930 at Hati Khel Bannu was a black day in the history of the area when British troops showered bullets on members of Khudai Khidmatgar Tehreek. This was said in a press release issued by the ANP chief on the eve of the anniversary of the Hati Khel massacre.

According to Asfandyar, a well-known religious leader Qazi Fazal Qadar, was also killed in the attack and the British colonial rulers denied handing his body to his heirs. Qadar was laid to rest inside Bannu prison. In 2002, former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani had ordered the construction of a park and a monument in the memory of Qadar.

Asfandyar paid tributes to martyrs of the massacre and said such true followers of non-violent political philosophy and companions of Bacha Khan will be remembered forever.
