Vulnerable structures: Commissioner orders removal of dilapidated billboards in 2 weeks

BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur Commissioner Saqib Zafar on Saturday directed the Punjab Horticulture Authority to pull down within two weeks all dilapidated billboards and hoardings.

He issued the orders while presiding over a meeting at his conference room. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Saqib Ali, Additional District Collector Imran Ajmal, Assistant Commissioner Rao Tasleem Akhter and PHA Director Rana Qazafi.

The commissioner was told that the authority had taken down 23 vulnerable billboards and repaired 53 others.

The meeting was told that eight of 130 billboards had been declared dangerous. The meeting was told that notices had been issued to the concerned quarters for their removal. The meeting was told that the Cantonment Board had also been informed about dangerous hoardings and billboards in its jurisdiction.

Jobs for disabled

Social Welfare Secretary Haroon Rafiq said on Sunday that the provincial government appreciated steps taken by the district administration of Bahawalpur to provide jobs to disabled citizens.

Addressing a meeting, the secretary said 81 people had been in various departments of the district administration. He said that a bus would be provided to students of Daarul Atfaal.

During the meeting, secretary was told the new recruits would be trained by TEVTA.

Later, the secretary visited the Government Technical High School and inspected security arrangements there. He urged the school administration to organise a drill to educate students regarding security arrangements. The secretary also visited Civil Hospital in Bahawalpur. He talked to patients admitted there and inquired about their problems.

Power cut

MEPCO Executive Engineer (Bahawalpur Division) on Saturday issued a statement that electricity would remain suspended for five hours from 7:30 am to 12:30pm on August 24 at the Gulzar Mehal feeder of Satellite Town.

The statement said on August 30 and August 31, electricity would also remain suspended in areas served by City I and City II feeders, respectively. The statement said power would be suspended for routine maintenance.
