Giving children their basic right to education

ISLAMABAD: The trend of average citizens imparting knowledge to underprivileged children is gaining popularity in the capital city- with concerned members of society trying to bring about a positive change.

Ayub Khan, commonly known as Master Ayub, a popular educationist, bestows his knowledge to less fortunate children in the city free of cost.

Khan said that “I have been educating poor children for several years now and it is primarily due to the fact that the authorities allow me to use a public place to teach them”.

He further added that he has taught a variety of subjects, such as Mathematics, Urdu, English, despite the fact that he has no teaching certification.

The educationist said that when he started teaching his students predominantly comprised of street children, but now several older students assist him in teaching his pupils. Mahrukh, a young teacher, said that after conducting her duties in the home, she would teach poor children near her residence, who want to learn.

She added that she had been doing this for her own self-satisfaction as well as knowing that she is helping change the lives of underprivileged children.

Mahrukh said that her students were taught courses in mathematics as well as social sciences, to enhance their skill set and to aid them in practical life.

Farhan Ahmed, her student, said that he had been coming to her for several years now, in an effort to improve his life.
