SHABQADAR: A teenage girl was killed at her house in Shabqadar. She is believed to have been murdered by her in-laws.

Robina Bibi, the deceased’s mother, told The Express Tribune on Friday her 16-year-old daughter Safia was married to her cousin Irfan nine months ago. She added Irfan and his father killed Safia.

However, the girl’s in-laws claimed she died a natural death.

Robina Bibi said when she heard about her daughter’s death on Thursday, she rushed to Shabqadar from Takht Bhai, Mardan.

She added Safia had told her about the harsh behaviour of her in-laws towards her.

When Robina Bibi reached Shabqadar, she found marks on Safia’s necks. She filed a complaint with the Khwajawas police against her daughter’s in-laws.

Safia’s body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem. The report would be given to the police for further investigation.

However, a medical technician at the hospital told The Express Tribune, Safia did not die a natural death, but was either killed or committed suicide. He requested anonymity as he was not authorised to comment on the matter.

The bereaved mother said she has three daughters and her husband died a few years ago. She wanted to take Safia’s body to Takht Bhai, but locals stopped her from doing so.
