Police, PESCO clueless over transformer theft in Haripur

Various parts of Shah Muhammad village plunge into darkness

HARIPUR: Police officials and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) representatives have not been able to ascertain who was involved in the theft of a power transformer in Haripur.

The transformer was stolen seven days back. However, little is known about the culprit who has inconvenienced a large number of locals.

Residents told The Express Tribune unidentified thieves stole a 200 kilovolts transformer that was installed on GT Road in Shah Muhammad village.

“The theft took place at 3am on August 11,” a local said.

He added various parts of the village have been plunged into darkness after the transformer was stolen.

A temporary arrangement has been established to provide power supply to locals till the matter is resolved. Pesco officials are temporarily supplying electricity to the village by linking power supply to another transformer.

Liaqat Khan, a political leader, confirmed that Pesco has linked the houses to another transformer.

“However, the voltage has been reduced by a considerable degree,” he said. “This has exposed consumers to multiple problems.”

The police have registered an FIR against the incident. However, the police and Pesco official have yet to find any leads in the case.

Meanwhile, the villagers have urged Pesco officials to install a new transformer.
