SWABI: A suspected militant was killed while another was arrested during an encounter with the police in Shawa village, Swabi on Wednesday.

Liaquat Ali, the police’s public relations officer, told The Express Tribune a search operation was conducted within the jurisdiction of Kalu Khan police station when militants attacked a police van.

He added the police retaliated and killed a suspected militant. Another suspect was injured.

“However, two of their accomplices managed to fled the site,” he said. The accused has been shifted to the police station for interrogation.

Earlier, three bodies were found in Gajju Khan, Swabi. Police said the remains were found in Gajju Khan and identities of the deceased have yet to be ascertained. It added that all three people were shot in the head and their bodies were dumped on the side of the road. All of the deceased were between 30 and 33 years of age, while torture marks were also visible on the bodies.

On August 16, unidentified gunmen killed an additional SHO in Adina village, Swabi. Ibrar Khan was at a shop when gunmen opened fire at him, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Syed Ibrar was incharge of the anti-car lifting cell in Swabi.
