Army chief signs execution orders of 11 terrorists

The list includes those who were involved in sectarian killings, kidnappings and slaughtering of civilians, personnel

ISLAMABAD: Army chief General Raheel Sharif signed on Tuesday the death warrants of 11 ‘hardcore terrorists’ who have been convicted by military courts of terrorism-related offences.

The convicts planned and executed a number of attacks on law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) and armed forces of Pakistan, the military’s media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement. “They were also involved in destruction of schools and communication infrastructure.”

All the convicts were active members of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the umbrella of terrorist groups, blamed for most violence in the country. The convicts had confessed to their offences before the magistrate and the military courts set up under the National Action Plan against terrorism.

“These terrorists also include those who were involved in sectarian killings, kidnappings and slaughtering of civilians and personnel of the Frontier Constabulary and killing of Major Abid Majeed of Pakistan Army,” the ISPR added.

It said the terrorists were also convicted for their involvement in the killing of Balochistan DIG Fayyaz Sumbal, assistant sub inspector (ASI) Raza Khan as well as Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) inspector Kamran Nasir in Quetta.

The convicts include Ziaul Haq, Fazle Rabbi, Muhammad Sher, Umer Zada, Latifur Rehman, Muhammad Adil, Israr Ahmed, Abdul Majeed, Hazrat Ali, Mian Said Azam and Qaiser Khan.

Details of the convicts

According to the ISPR, Ziaul Haq, s/o Wali Khan, was an active member of the TTP and was involved in suicide attacks, which caused death and injuries to a large number of civilians. The convict was also involved in attacking the LEAs.

“The attacks resulted in the death of DIG Fayyaz Sumbal, ASI Raza Khan, several other police officials and ISI inspector Kamran Nazir. He was also involved in sectarian killings and has admitted to his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was tried on 12 charges and awarded death sentence,” it said.

Fazale Rabbi, s/o Fazal Ghafoor, was involved in slaughtering and killing of civilians. He was also involved in attacks which resulted in the death of Major Abid Majeed and injuries to several soldiers. The convict was tried on 4 charges.

Muhammad Sher, s/o Zaray, was involved in killing of civilians. He was also involved in attacking armed forces and caused death and injuries to soldiers. The convict, who also destroyed a girls middle school, was tried on five charges.

Umer Zada, s/o Gul Rehman, was involved in attacks which resulted in the death and injuries to soldiers. He was also in possession of explosives. The convict was tried on three charges.

Latifur Rehman, s/o Saifur Rehman, was involved in kidnapping and killing law enforcers. He was also involved in attacks which resulted in the death of soldiers. The convict was also in possession of firearms and explosives and tried on 5 charges.

Muhammad Adil, s/o Muhammad Akbar Jan, was involved in kidnapping and slaughtering soldiers of the Frontier Constabulary. The convict, also involved in destruction of a police station in Matta, Swat, was found in possession of firearms and explosives. He was tried on five charges.

Israr Ahmed, s/o Abdul Rahim Jan, was involved in attacks which resulted in death and injuries to soldiers. He was also involved in destruction of a girls primary school and a hotel of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and was tried on four charges.

Abdul Majeed, s/o Khona Moula, was involved in attacks which resulted in death and injuries to soldiers. He also destroyed a PTDC hotel and was tried on 3 charges.

Hazrat Ali, s/o Fazal Rabi, was involved in planting improvised explosive devices and killing of civilians. He was also involved in attacking armed forces and was tried on 5 charges.

Mian Said Azam s/o Mian Said Jaffar was involved in attacks which resulted in causing death and injuries to soldiers of armed forces and LEAs. He was also involved in destruction of girls schools and was tried on 5 charges.

Qaiser Khan s/o Habib Khan was involved in killing civilians and destroying communication infrastructure. The convict was tried on 2 charges and awarded death sentence.
