Save the environment: Monsoon Tree Plantation Drive kicks off

BAHAWALPUR: Commissioner Saqib Zafar requested district officials on Tuesday to mobilise all available resources to plant a million saplings and plants during the division-wide Monsoon Tree Plantation Drive.

Zafar inaugurated the tree plantation campaign by planting a shrub in his office lawn.

The ceremony was attended by Additional Coordination Commissioner Saqib Ali Ateel, Cholistan Development Authority MD Naeem Iqbal Bukhari, Forests Conservator Faisal Haroon, DOC Chaudhry Amjad Bashir, Colleges Director Mehmood-ul-Hassan and Assistant Commissioner Syed Waseem Hassan.

“Tree Plantation campaigns are necessary to meet the challenges of climate change.” The commissioner urged forest officials to be vigilant and to extend their support in making the Monsoon Tree Plantation Drive a success.

Faisal Haroon gave a detailed briefing regarding the campaign.

He said 428,000 saplings would be planted in Bahawalpur district; 286,000 would be planted at Bahawalnagar district; and 336,000 saplings would be planted in Rahim Yar Khan district.

He said they had also set up 24 sale points where plants were being sold for Rs3 and saplings for Rs1.
