ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan claimed on Thursday the ruling party was targeting his charity work to deflect attention from the Sharif family’s “involvement in money laundering” as revealed in the Panama Papers.

“Charities are being targeted with false accusations in a desperate bid to divert public attention away from the Panama Papers,” Imran said in a statement.

He pointed out that Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre was targeted despite the fact that parent trust was spending Rs4 billion a year on free treatment for the poor and needy. “All this is raised through donations from the public, which has reposed trust in the SKMT charity.”

Imran also clarified that the accounts of the Namal College are in the public domain and can be verified by anyone.
