Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed on Thursday to form a committee comprising federal and provincial representatives to review the progress on the National Action Plan (NAP).

The plan was first evolved in the aftermath of the 2014 attack on Army Public School in Peshawar, which left at least 144 people, mostly children dead.

Chairing a high level meeting in Islamabad to review NAP's progress, the premier said the state will rid the country of terrorism with all its power, said a statement.

The menace of terrorism will be eradicated with renewed pledge and using full might of the state, he added.

The decision comes three days after at least 70 people were killed and scores injured, mostly lawyers, when a bomb ripped through Quetta's Civil Hospital, the latest of the terrorist incidents to have hit the volatile city.

The meeting also agreed to improve the level of communication and consultation between the intelligence and security agencies.

Participants of the meeting affirmed that eradication of terrorism will remain as first priority of the government and state institutions.

The premier on the occasion felicitated security institutions for their sacrifices to overcome the menace of terrorism.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Ibnterior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, and DG ISI Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, among other senior officials.

Earlier on Tuesday, the premier directed the authorities concerned participants of a security meeting to follow a workable mechanism for communication between civilian and military intelligence agencies from the platform of National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta).

The meeting had also decided to resolve the funding constraints relating to implementation of the NAP.
