KARACHI: The Sindh government has approached Turkey for financial assistance in launching the Sufi University at Bhit Shah, the last abode of mystic poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

The provincial government has been working on the university project upon the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari and the launch had been approved for January 2011. Antiques Secretary Kaleem Lashari confirmed that the Sufi University could not be launched on schedule due to a lack of funds, which are now being solicited from other sources. “The Sindh government has decided to seek funds from Turkey for the Sufi University. We have held two meetings with concerned parties in this regard,” he told PPI, adding that they were preparing for a third round of talks. A total of Rs65.590 million was required to launch the project in the year 2010-11.
