LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri on Wednesday demanded action against the National Assembly speaker for allowing members to speak against national security institutions.

He was addressing an ulema conference.

“A conspiracy is being hatched to divide the nation by using the Quetta tragedy. The speaker is acting according to the wishes of the prime minister and the ruling party. His neutrality is questionable,” he said.

Qadri said that some elements were trying to reverse the gains made by Operation Zarb-i-Azb. “The ruling party has not implemented the National Action Plan (NAP) approved 17 months ago,” he said.

Qadri said that the interior minister himself had spelled out the shortcomings of the intelligence agencies in his speech in the National Assembly. “The interior minister is not on speaking terms with the defence minister. There is no coordination among various government organs,” he said. Qadri said that the NAP had been approved unanimously by the political parties. “The government has failed to implement any part of it. It is only the army that has been trying to eliminate terrorism,” he said.
