PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan has appointed three regional presidents in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for a successful Tehreek-e-Ehtisab campaign against Nawaz Sharif and his family. However, the name for president’s slot for the Hazara region has not been finalised yet.

The notification appointing presidents for three regions was issued a day before the Tehreek-e-Ehtisab rally which was held on August 7.

According to the notification, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, K-P Minister for Public Health Engineering Shah Farman has been appointed as president for Peshawar region, PTI MPA Mehmood Khan for Malakand region, while Minister for Revenue Ali Amin Gandapur has been appointed as president for the southern region.

However, a PTI official, requesting anonymity, said that Senator Azam Swati’s name was being considered for the post of the Hazara region president.

He pointed out that PTI nominated Ali Asghar as president for the region, but various leaders in the party expressed reservations. Therefore,  PTI’s central leadership withdrew his name and now Azam Swati is expected to be appointed.

The official said earlier the PTI leadership recommended four names for regional presidents, including Fazal Khan for the Peshawar region, Ali Asghar for Hazara, Dr Amjad Khan for Malakand and Saib Gul Khattak for the southern region.

However, the party decided to appoint Farman, Ali Amin and Mehmood in the respective regions.

Meanwhile, PTI central media cell head, Iftikhar Durrani, confirmed the appointments and said, “Imran Khan will decide the name of the Hazara region president in a day or two.”
