
She was speaking at a seminar on ‘Preventing gender-based violence through democratic governance’ arranged by Pakistan Forum on Democratic Police (PFDP), on Friday.
The seminar was attended by prominent personalities; Member of Parliament and Secretary Women’s Caucus Shaista Pervez Malik, Former IG Police Kamaluddin Tipu, Islamabad High Court Bar Association President Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, and Rozan Communications Managing Director Babar Bashir.
The participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of the police officials in eliminating terrorism.
Ambreen elucidated the various reasons for GBV in the country.
Jahangiri highlighted the loopholes present in the legal framework to deal with GBV and the dire need of improving the judicial system and the relevant laws to protect women’s rights.
Tipu said that it is imperative to incorporate democratic policing principles in order to strengthen democracy.
