Public space: SC seeks report on billboards

APP August 04, 2016

LAHORE: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday sought a report from the provincial government in two weeks on the installation of billboards and hoardings at public places. The bench asked the government as well as other respondents to explain as to how installation of huge billboards and hoardings, which could endanger people’s lives, was permitted at parks, roads and footpaths.  “Such properties are meant for public use and are annuity properties in nature. Under what authority of law is this permissible?” the bench asked. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Faisal Arab passed the order while hearing a petition regarding issuance of an NOC for installation of publicity boards at Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry.
