SUKKUR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sukkur, arrested on Wednesday two officials of the Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) on charges of corruption.

According to NAB Sukkur’s press release, Ghulam Abbas Shaikh, a purchase officer at LMC, opened a company in 2009 and, in connivance with other officials of LMC, got millions of rupees of LMC funds transferred into his company accounts in the garb of supply and installation of electrical materials and other purchases.

Abdul Sattar Shaikh, a clerk at LMC who is the brother of Ghulam, also opened a separate company in 2012. Both the government officials participated in the bid as contractors and obtained work orders for the supply of electrical and other materials. During the inquiry, it was established that neither purchases were made nor supplies were provided and they embezzled funds amounting to more than Rs125 million through fake billings.
