On display : Mechanical engineering students exhibit 38 projects

VC says such events minimise gap between students, industry

PESHAWAR: At least 38 projects were exhibited by students of department of mechanical engineering, University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar on Wednesday. The projects were showcased during an exhibition which was organised by the varsity in collaboration with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company Limited and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Around 190 students from different groups participated in the event. The exhibition was aimed at providing a platform to students to present their mechanical projects that they had completed during the final year.

UET Vice Chancellor Iftikhar Hussain was the chief guest on the occasion. He praised the efforts of the graduating students.

A step closer

While speaking to journalist, he said such projects minimise the gap between the students and the industry as a number of leading industrialists have also been invited to the exhibition.

He especially lauded the efforts of Mechanical Engineering Department Chairman Prof Naeem Khattak and other faculty members under whose guidance the projects were made.

“These projects are special because they have the research factor attached to them,” the VC maintained. The projects prepared by the students were mostly of the industrial level having practical usage at local level. A panel of judges from mechanical engineering department evaluated the projects based on their presentation and work efficiency. Out of 36 projects, three projects were declared the best projects, while six special prizes were also given under different categories.

The blue ribbon

The first prize was won by the students who made the project titled ‘Mechanical Characterisation of Fiberglass Reinforced Composite’. The second prize was awarded to a project titled ‘Design and Fabrication of Gravity Water Pump’. The third prize was won by a project titled ‘Mechanical Testing and Failure Analysis of Photovoltaic Modules’.

On the occasion, Rs15, 000 were given to the best project, while Rs10, 000 and Rs5, 000 were given to second and third best projects, respectively. Meanwhile, Rs4,000 were given to other projects.
