Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Akora Khattak SHO Nihar Ali said the raids were carried out against illegal mining in Nandarak.
“The district administration imposed Section 4 of Land Acquisition Act, 1894,” he said.
“This was done on the request of Provincial Housing Authority (PHA).”
As per this legal provision, the site was restricted for a housing scheme
“It was halted for all forms of mining and other activities on the proposed site of Peshawar Mega City along with Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway,” he added.
The SHO added a police team accompanied by officials from PHA raided the site where illegal mining was being carried.
“The team impounded four loaders and found 52 trucks loaded with sand,” he said. “All vehicles were later shifted to Akora Khattak police station.”
According to the SHO, 27 trucks were impounded while the remaining had been cleared.
“Separate FIRs have been registered against those involved in illegal mining,” he added.
In July, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa mines and minerals department and PHA had initiated efforts to prevent illegal mining at the site reserved for a housing scheme near the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway.
