KARACHI: The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, (BSEK) has ended the wait of 95 special candidates and 24,583 general group students who appeared in the annual examination this year by announcing their results.

With girls clinching all six positions in special and general group results, BSEK has awarded position holders with cash prizes - Rs50,000 has been awarded to the first position holder, Rs30,000 to the second and Rs20,000 to the third.

As promised in last year's ceremony, BSEK issued computerised enrolment cards this year and has promised to issue computerised admit cards next year. BSEK chairperson Anwar Ahmed Zai announced that they are improving the examination system and will be keeping strict checks on schools.

Zai referred to the position holders as 'the bright future of the country' and also dedicated all the shields and awards to late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi. He said that the board will be changing its paper pattern - the objective section will be increased to 40% from 20%. From the passing candidates, 70% of students are from private schools while the rest are from government schools. The ceremony's chief guest, Faisal Edhi, demanded that the government increase the education and health budgets to provide better facilities to the people. He also said that there is a dire need to revive public schools and decrease the number of out-of-school children. "If we continue to live this way and do not do anything, the people will not forgive us," he added.
