IB official shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: An Intelligence Bureau (IB) official was gunned down in Peshawar in an apparent targeted attack on Monday.

DSP Shaukat of Yakatoot police station told The Express Tribune that Inspector Osman Gul Afridi was travelling on his motorcycle when unidentified assailants opened fire at him in Wazirbagh and fled the scene.

Osman died on the spot while a passerby named Iftikhar was injured. The body of the deceased was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital for legal formalities.

Osman was a member of the Afridi tribe and a senior member of the IB who had been deployed in the area.

A banned militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the killing. In a mail sent to media outlets, the banned organisation claimed the attack was carried out by its men.
