Deadly encounter: Smuggling bid foiled

LAHORE: A smuggler was shot dead at the Pakistan-India border late on Saturday. The incident occurred in Kanganpur sector. Officials said two people suspected of being smugglers tried to cross into the Pakistani side. They were spotted by Rangers personnel and were directed to surrender. However, they started shooting at them. One of them was killed as the Rangers returned fire. The other managed to escape.
