Pakistan suspends visa accord with Kuwait

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday suspended Pakistan’s visa abolition agreement with Kuwait, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior. The measure came in the backdrop of difficulties faced by Pakistani government officials during their travel to Kuwait.

The spokesman quoted the interior minister saying: “Despite the accord with Kuwait, Pakistani government officials holding blue and diplomatic passports were still required to get visa for travelling to Kuwait which was against the spirit of the agreement.”

Pakistan and Kuwait had signed the agreement for holders of diplomatic, special and official passports in November 2013. However, the agreement came into effect in August 2014.

“Such visa regimes and agreements are meant to ease travelling of the government officials and diplomats. An agreement cannot last which is not reciprocated,” remarked Nisar.

Forget about employment visa, Pakistanis are not issued even family visas and or visit visas. Our presidents and prime ministers came to Kuwait but visa restrictions could not be removed. The worst part is that if any Pakistani has a problem with his / her employer then he / she just compromises simply because if the employer deports any him / her then because of visa denial, he / she cannot come back to Kuwait hence the employee keeps mums to remain in Kuwait / Iqbal Hadi Zaidi

People of Pakistan support Kuwait govt.Ordinary Pakistani citizens go through so much difficulties when it comes to visa but corrupt politicians enjoy visa free travel. Most of diplomatic passports are used by their families and friends or sold out.This is the right step Kuwait took.

Brainy Bhaijan | 8 years ago | Reply There is a visa ban on Pakistanis (ordinary passport holders) which prohibits them from going to Kuwait, even on visit visas. These politicians and foreign ministry bureaucrats know about this, yet shamefully want to travel to that country on their official or diplomatic passports. Kuwait does not want to maintain any relations with Pakistan.
