The incident took place late Saturday night but was reported at 1:00 pm on Sunday afternoon at the DI khan police station. A police official told The Express Tribune that the police are unaware of the reasons as to why the complaint was filed the next day, however an FIR has been filed against the incident and investigation is ongoing.
Security at airports is handled by the Airport Security Force (ASF). Director Security Civil Aviation Authority Gulzar Janjua, who was in Karachi at that time, said that some stolen equipment carries PIA and ASF data. “I am not sure but I am hoping there is back-up of the information which was saved in those computers.”He further said that DI Khan airport is small and closes down when flights leave. However, there are two to three security guards that overlook the security of the whole airport.
Janjua said that the security guards have been arrested and he has ordered an inquiry into the matter. “It is definitely a security lapse and we are digging into the matter to find out the actual reasons behind it,” said Janjua. “The inquiry will make things clearer for the future, so that such incidents are not repeated,” he added.
