PIA dispels rumours regarding strike

PIA says all domestic and international flights will operate on schedule, there will not be any disruption of flights.

According to a press release issued by the Pakistan International Airline (PIA), all domestic and international flights will operate on schedule and there will not be any disruption of flights.

A PIA spokesperson said on Sunday that rumours regarding any strike call are baseless and that no agreement or MoU has been signed with the Turkish Airlines. The Proposed Code Share Joint Venture Commercial Agreement is subject to approval from the government of Pakistan and other regulatory authorities. The statement said that routes are not owned by any airline and therefore cannot be sold or bought. PIA and TK have proposed a code share arrangement, which are being done by most airlines to increase profitability and enhance routes without incurring additional costs. He further said that all employees are dedicated workers and loyal to the airline. However, a few miscreants want to disrupt the normal working of the airline and create problems for passengers and general public of Pakistan as well as affecting the image of the airline abroad.

Azzam Khan | 13 years ago | Reply I came back last night from Karachi to Islamabad and upon arrival at ISB there were thousands of annoyed, disgruntled and angry PIA employees protesting outside the arrivals lounge in Islamabad. The matter of the fact remains that PIA since the late 90's has been a loss-making organization & such agreements act as a mere cover to hide the true realities that we all know. An overstaffed airline which has the highest aircraft-to-man ratio in the world, with poor in-flight service........I'm sorry to say that PIA can no longer be called our glorious flag-ship carrier like it used to be in the past. God save PIA.

M. Tariq | 13 years ago | Reply As usual the PIA spokesman is not telling the truth. Routes become the property of a national airline after they have been obtained after years of bilateral agreements. Today PIA Routes are its only asset, because everything else including the aircraft are pledged with the banks. When Virgin Air Chairman Richard Branson was asked which airline he would prefer to buy, if he had the option to do that, he rplied PIA. Asked why did he make this choice, his reply was because of its routes and the fact that PIA had an assured seat factor of over 60%. Losses in PIA are not because of any lack of revenues, but poor management and pilferages. During tenure of this MD, losses have increased by over 100% and so have its liabilities. PIA definitely needs a better management instead of the corrupt mediocrity that has driven it to bankruptcy.
