MANSEHRA: A teenage girl was strangled by her paternal uncle in a suspected case of honour killing in a village of Lassan Nawab Sahib in Mansehra on Thursday.

However, the accused insisted the girl had committed suicide. It was later revealed, through post-mortem reports and information gathered by the police, the girl was killed in the name of honour. The police arrested the accused.

The girl had left home and returned on Wednesday afternoon. Her paternal uncle, Khan Muhammad, suspected she was meeting a boy from the same village.

Muhammad thrashed her and eventually killed her. The girl’s family told villagers she had committed suicide. According to doctors, the body of the victim carried torture marks. The victim’s father later revealed that his brother strangled her.

According to the police, the accused was later arrested from the neighbouring village during the early hours of Thursday and produced before a judicial magistrate.
