PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government has failed to protect the lives and properties of Awami National Party leaders. This was said by ANP Central General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain.

Mian Iftikhar was speaking at a meeting at Bacha Khan Markaz on Thursday.  The moot was held with district organiser and former deputy speaker Advocate Khushdil Khan in the chair. Arbab Mohammad Tahir and Ibrar Khalil also spoke on the occasion.

He said the provincial government’s inability to protect the lives of ANP leaders compelled them to approach international forums.

Constitutional responsibility

Mian Iftikhar voiced his resentment over targeted attacks on ANP stalwarts and workers throughout the region. “ANP is the sole political force that is opposing and resisting terrorism,” he said. “As a result, its party members are being targeted.”

Mian Iftikhar said the government must realise its constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and properties of the public.

“My party favours provincial autonomy and supremacy of Parliament,” he said. “Unless federating units were strengthened, the federation itself cannot be strong.”

Not too rosy a picture

The ANP leader said there was widespread unrest in K-P contrary to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan’s claims.

“Meanwhile, the functions of all government departments have been adversely affected by tussles within the bureaucracy,” he said. “Corruption, malpractice, nepotism and misuse of power are on the rise.”Iftikhar added a number of PTI leaders and parliamentarians are accusing Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and other ministers of corruption. He urged ANP workers and stalwarts to come forward and promote the party’s interests in their respective circles.

Fawad Ali | 8 years ago | Reply But they were insecure even in their own government and the death ratio was higher than current govt. We wish that ANP will be more secure in future.
