In the first incident, five people died and 14 others were injured in a road accident in Naka Kalay, Upper Kurram Agency on Wednesday.
An official of the political administration told The Express Tribune a passenger van was travelling to Naka Kalay from Hangu when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into a ravine.
“Soon after the incident, the police and rescue teams reached the site and shifted the injured to the hospital in Hangu,” he said. “Three of the deceased have been identified as Sheraz, Mir Islam and Jaleel. The other two were women whose identity could not be ascertained.”
According to the official, 14 passengers were injured in the road accident. “The condition of five of them is particularly critical,” he said. The official said Shan Gul, Imran, Naik Marjan, Bismillah Jan, Aman Khan, Nisar, Wali Marjan, Sanab Gul, Rehmat Gul, Siraj Bibi, Muhammad Wajid, Rehman Gul and Muqeebur Rehman were among those who were injured.
“The identity of one person has yet to be ascertained,” he added. According to police spokesperson, the accident occurred due to overloading. “There was space for 14 passengers,” he said. “But the driver only accommodated 36 passengers.”
Hangu DC Ehsanullah and other officials visited the hospital and distributed free medicines among the injured.
Separately, seven people were killed while five others were injured when a vehicle plunged into a ravine in Upper Dir.
