US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale met on Monday Faisal Edhi, son of Abdul Sattar Edhi and praised the late philanthropist's work and compassion for humanity.

The celebrated humanitarian breathed his last at a hospital in Karachi on July 8 after prolonged illnesses and kidney failure.

The envoy paid his respects to the family of the humanitarian, saying Edhi “promoted human rights through his tireless work assisting the needy, regardless of ethnicity or religion."

Earlier on Saturday, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah wrote a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee regarding Edhi's nomination for the Nobel Prize.

Making a case for the nomination, Shah said Edhi was a renowned social worker, founder of the largest non-profit social welfare organisation in Pakistan and he proved his commitment to humanity beyond any discrimination and prejudice.

Larry | 8 years ago | Reply Condolences appreciated. But I never understood the need for the powerful and famous to take a photographer along when paying condolences at someone's passing away, whether in a private meeting or a public funeral. Especially when that someone is as humble, kind and loving of the ordinary human being as Edhi was. Could they be motivated only by the light from such a noble soul, hoping to obtain some reflected nobility themselves?
