Raids: Alleged target killers, extortionists arrested

KARACHI: Over half a dozen suspects, including political workers, were apprehended during ongoing targeted raids in different parts of the metropolis on Sunday.

Two political workers allegedly involved in various cases of target killings were arrested during a raid conducted by law enforcement agencies in Orangi Town. The suspects were identified as Khalid alias Mamu and Noshad alias Bara Sheru. The arrests were made during a raid in the Pakistan Bazaar area. They were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.

Extortionists held

Similarly, three alleged extortionists were apprehended by the investigation wing of Baldia Town police. The suspects were identified as Shahid Shaikh, Muhammad Kashif and Shakeel. Investigations SP Akhtar Farooq said the suspects were involved in extortion activities and had recently demanded Rs500,000 from a person, identified as Qadir. They had warned him of dire consequences if he failed to pay the amount, said the official. Cases were registered against them.

Street criminals busted

Separately, the police apprehended two alleged street criminals during patrolling in Block 13/D, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and recovered two TT pistols and ammunition along with a motorcycle stolen from Pak Colony. SHO Safdar Mashwani said the accused have confessed to their involvement in several street crimes in different parts of Karachi. Two separate criminal cases were registered against the arrested men.

Robbery attempt foiled

In another raid, the North Nazimabad police foiled a robbery attempt at a bungalow in North Nazimabad. The police team reached in time after having been intimated via police helpline 15. After an exchange of fire, the culprits escaped by foot. However, a new Corolla car was left behind and recovered. Another robbery attempt took place with the robbers in the same car in Hyderi market area on Friday, in which the suspects had escaped after an exchange of fire with the police.

'Kidnapper' nabbed

Meanwhile, the New Town police claim to have arrested an accused, identified as Zahid Baksh, who was wanted in a kidnapping case. The accused had kidnapped a woman, Aroosa, who has been recovered from his captivity.
