HARIPUR: Residents of Haripur have launched a campaign – titled ‘Go Afghani Go’ – to expel Afghan nationals from the region. They have vowed to continue protest till all Afghan national leave the area.

Many of them took out a procession from Padhana village and gathered at Panian Chowk on Saturday.

The protest was led by Pakistan Falah Party central president Qazi Atiqur Rehman, Sahibzada Attaur Rehman and Sheikh Riazuddin. The protesters were carrying banners and were shouting slogans against Afghan refugees and the government.

Addressing participants at the protest, Qazi Atiqur Rehman said the people of Pakistan have hosted Afghan refugees for three decades.

“In return, they have nurtured acrimonious sentiments about Pakistan and created a wave of terrorism and criminality,” he said.

Qazi Atiqur added Afghan nationals dominate most businesses across the country. “This has left little space for young people who have been forced to earn a living in other cities or countries,” he said. “Enough is enough. We cannot tolerate them anymore.”

Speaking on the occasion, district council member Sahibzada Attaur Rehman said Afghan nationals have become a burden on the country’s economy and its people.

Sahibzada Attaur said Afghan nationals are involved in criminal activities. “Afghan nationals have disrupted peace in Haripur,” he added. “They must be repatriated at once.”

He said they will continue to protest till Afghan refugees have been repatriated.

Instead of forced expulsion, we need to send back only the ones involved in criminal activities or those who are not registered or those who are caught spying for foreign agencies. Force expulsion will result in more refugees going towards a criminal life and they can turn into assets for terrorists or for foreign intelligence agencies.
We need to sort out a strategy with UNHCR to either properly integrating the Afghan refugees in Pakistan as Pakistanis or to give them some respectable alternative like living in some safe zone in Afghanistan. May be only less than 1% are working with NDS or other agencies but most of them are victim of their own government and there is no point in undoing all the good work we have done for more than 36 years, by taking care of more than 3 millions of refugees.
Many of them are living with their second or third generations in this country. We cannot just tell them to get out because their current government is being run by back stabbing idiots. Their government is one of the reasons that they are here.Recommend

Not astonished to read the article as their president is busy in making happy to India by insulting Pakistan with his disrespectful statements. So this is no surprise that people will rise to show their disgruntle response in reaction and demand to send back refugees to their homes as they could no longer share the burden of million of peoples. But at the same time we should not loose our patience and should remain calm to avoid any unfortunate incident. Because, such rallies can be targeted by miscreants to heighten the tension between two nations. In Haripur, thousands of Afghan refugees are living since the Afghan war started and now their second generation is growing older. also, this is fact that in number of robberies they are involved and spreading fear and insecurity among the business community. May be this is a right time, Pakistan should review their refugee assistance plan and should restrict them in designated areas other than those who are holding the registration card. Nevertheless, we should develop more harmony with the neighbors to facilitate them to our limits. Recommend
