LAHORE: The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is holding a coaching session at its campus for applicants selected under its National Outreach Programme (NOP).

In a statement on Friday, the LUMS said that the NOP Coaching Session 2016 had officially commenced on July 18, 2016. It said that 600 applicants had been shortlisted for the programme. They were given a tour of the campus on their arrival. Later, it said, an assembly was held at the Academic Block to brief the shortlisted applicants about the details of the programme.

The 15-day coaching programme would entail training for Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT)-I and II. It would conclude on August 1, 2016.

The statement said lodging and dining facilities had been arranged for around 80 per cent of those attending the programme. It said the programme would also feature tutorials on various facilities offered to students at the LUMS campus and interactive sessions on presentation skills and critical thinking.

It said candidates shortlisted based on their performance in laboratory sessions, interviews and assessment tests would be called to sit the LUMS admissions test next year. It said the participants belonged to Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Loralai, Zhob, Turbat, Rakhni, Pishin, Gilgit, Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Mathelo, Karachi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Hasilpur and Bhakkar.

At the welcome ceremony, Vice Chancellor Sohail Naqvi briefed the participants about the core values and academic achievements of the university. “The LUMS is not interested in the ordinary. We aim for excellence. We aim to instill the same value in our students as well,” he said.

“The vision behind the NOP is to brighten up these students’ career prospects and to put them on track to secure a better future for themselves and their families,” the statement added.

The programme was started at the university in 2001 for extending the benefits of a world-class education to talented students from across the country. Students with exceptional performance in their matriculation and intermediate examinations are inducted to the LUMS undergraduate degree programmes. So far, 798 students have benefited from the programme.
